WALKS, TALKS AND EVENTS

To complement our Stewards of the Sea citizen science training programme, we also offer a variety of events throughout the year.

Stewards of the Sea - Surveyor Training

Saturday 14th May, 10am - 5pm, FREE but tickets MUST be booked in advance

Interested in becoming a Steward of the Sea in Orkney? This FREE comprehensive short course will teach you everything you need to know about cetaceans in the seas around Orkney and how to collect survey data so you’ll be able to contribute to OMMRI’s research. You will learn:

  • Which species of porpoises, dolphins and whales can be found in Orkney’s seas
  • How these species are adapted to a marine life
  • How to identify cetaceans
  • How to collect and record scientific data

And much, much more. On completion of the course you will receive a Steward of the Sea certificate and have all the knowledge you need to add to the growing evidence regarding species abundance around our islands.

This training course will be held in Kirkwall

However, should restrictions change and prevent this, the course will be held online using videos and photographs to hone your ID skills.
